Dog Daycare

Dogs are happiest when they get to play with friends every day.

Dog Daycare at Dogwood Kennels

Socialization is important for all dogs.   Dogs are a long way from being wolves but they are pack animals at heart.  They are happiest when they are with their pack.  They are very adaptable and can have more than one pack and their pack can be people, other dogs or a mix of both.  When your dog comes to daycare, he or she gets companionship (both from our team and other dogs), physical exercise and mental exercise.  Puppies learn important play skills and how to read other dogs’ body language.  Dog daycare can also be very helpful for dogs who have separation anxiety.  When they attend daycare, they don’t have to be alone for long periods of time when owners are working.  Dogs who come to daycare are tired and happy at the end of they day.  Dogs who are provided the opportunity to socialize and play during the day are better behaved at home because they have the chance to use up their excess energy by exercising their bodies and minds during the day.

We have two trainers on our team.  We behavior and temperament test every dog before they become part of our playgroups.  Our daycare dogs and boarders play in playgroups with same sized dogs who have similar play styles.  We don’t mix large and small dogs in playgroups for safety.  Our team remains in our play areas with our playgroups to help guide play, provide enrichment and keep every dog safe.

If a dog is shy or nervous about being in a group, we start slowly.  We teach shy dogs to be in a group by first teaching them to play in a group of 1 or 2 other dogs.  We take our time in introducing our boarders and daycare dogs to playgroups to ensure safety and peace of mind for the dogs.  We love watching our boarders and daycare dogs come to our kennel, excited and ready to play, each day.  We use only positive reinforcement methods with our boarders and daycare dogs.  We never introduce fear to any dog so that each dog is comfortable and confident in his or her play group.  They arrive happy and excited and leave tired and contented.
